Hello all.
In Europe we generaly have a very different way of thinking when it comes to which vintages are good ar bad in BDX, than in the US. Why does Americas consumers love the big and sweet style of the 2003 vintage so much? Sweettooths?
Strange when Parker gives 100 points and some of the European wine betterknowers slaughters the same wine. An example was Ch. Pavie in the 2000 vintage, and 2000 was not as warm as 2003.
Personally I dont think a BIG and sweet wine with a lot of tosted oak, low acidity ( due to the heat ) is a good balanced wine, and not decerving the hyped prices.
Do we want this "vulgare" style of BDX? It overshadows the terroir and its difficult to tell the difference between a Cab/Merlot from South Africa and a BDX.
Of course many producers chose to harvest in August to keep their wines in balance with a good structure, so those producers are forgiven.
Best regards
