A 100% Merlot varietal from the up and coming Columbia Valley in Washington. Single vineyard from the excellent 1999 vintage.
Color: Deep red, not transparent at all.
Nose: Blackberries and oak (15 months in oak). Hints of mocha and also alcohol. This one has a good 14.2% alcohol! Quite rare for a merlot I would say.
Palate: Blackberries and chocolate!! Hints of coffee too. Tannins are firm and the acid compliments this in a very good way. Juicy with lot of fruit. Stays long on the palate. Still...I would prefer it to be a bit more complex. Has the potential.
Could well benefit from another 2 years of cellaring, perhaps more.

A very good wine which can accompany a range of dishes, but steak, flank, baby back ribs and a good burger come to mind first. Unbeatable price!

Purchased at QFC (University Village), Seattle for $12.99.
