| Tokaji Szamorodni Édes 1999, Tokaji Disnókö This Tokaji has under 3 Puttonyos and has a younger fresher style. Color: Golden yellow with orange. Nose: Orange, raisins, some flowers. Palate: Medium bodied, good concentration, good acidity, fresh style, quite long finish. Sweetish. A young fresh and fruity Tokaji, very nice quality Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos Blue Label 1996, Royal Tokaji Company Color: Deep orange with brown, brilliant. Nose: Candied orangepeel, dried apricot, peach, sultana raisins, some spices. Palate: Medium bodied, good fruitconcentration, good acidity, follows the smell, a long fresh lingering finish. Sweet. This wine is a very modern styled Tokaji, with very low oxidation and very good acidity against the sweetness. Good wine. Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos 1995, Tokaji Disnókó Color: Golden yellow. Nose: Fresh of tropical fruits, apricot, honey and citric fruits. Palate: Light bodied, fresh fruity style, no complexity, medium concentration, medium long finish. Sweetish. No this is not good enough for Tokaji. Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos 1994, Tokaji Hetzölö Color: Light orange. Nose: Dried tropical fruit, candied orange and lemon peel, distinct wood here. Palate: Light bodied, no energy, slightly too much oxidated, low acidity, short finish. This wine I didnt like, out of balance, lacks concentration, simple, no not for me. Crown Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos 1993 Minimum 3 years in oak. Color: Very dark golden, medium intensity. Nose: First a lot of nuts, then dried fruits like prunes, raisins, figs, spices. Palate: Full bodied, quite elegant but a lot of nutty aromas and maybe it lacks a little acidity. Foodmatch: Nut dishes, dark chocolate, dried fruits. Cellaring: Very developed this, but maybe 5 more years.
I tend to like more the fruity acid style. It can be old but I like more the modern style that is not so oxidated as this one. Tokaji Aszu 6 Puttonyos Bestek 1993, Royal Tokaji Company This wine is from a single vineyard the "Bestek". The Vintage is allready legendary. Color: Golden dark orange with brown. Very deep. Nose: Very intens and complex, honey, caramelized apricot and peach, spices, chocolate, mature style, maybe even some balsamic wood is shining through. Palate: Full bodied, very concentrated slightly oily fruit, mature, follows the smell, very good balancing acidity, very long finish with honey. Great wine, just amazing stuff, 30 minutes finish. Tokaji Eszencia 1993, Royal Tokaji Company As far as I know Eszencia means that only the dried and botrytis infected grapes are used in the production. Color: Dark brown, very deep. Nose: A lot of spices, dark honey, balsamic wood, a compot of dried fruits like apricot, figs, prunes. Palate: Big bodied, very sweet and oily, great concentration, good balancing acidity, very long finish. This is an amazing wine, very sweet of course, but in perfect balance. For my taste maybe I would like just a little more acidity. Nevertheless very very nice. Tokaji Aszu Eszencia 1993, Tokaji Disnökö Color: Golden dark brown, very deep. Nose: Intens of dried fruits like apricot, raisins, prunes, honey, caramel, candied orange peel. Palate: Big bodied, very concentrated fruit, slightly oily, great acidity, looooooong finish. Amazing wine, great great stuff. The acidity in this wine is super and it will cellar good for 50 years. Well that was some very different Tokaji wines, I hope more and more people will get their eyes open for this type of wine which again after some decades of neglection both from producers and consumers, is starting to compete as one of the finest dessert wines in the world. | |
